After their daughter’s birth last month, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli shared a picture of her for the first time. They also announced her name: Vamika — said to be another name for Goddess Durga.
“We have lived together with love, presence and gratitude as a way of life but this little one, Vamika has taken it to a whole new level! Tears, laughter, worry, bliss — emotions that have been experienced in a span of minutes sometimes! Sleep is elusive but our hearts are SO full. Thanking you all for your wishes, prayers and good energy,” Anushka wrote, posting a picture with Virat and Vamika.
The Indian skipper showered love on the post and wrote, “My whole world in one frame,” along with a heart emoji. Meanwhile, friends and fans have been posting comments welcoming Vamika to the world. While Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya reacted to Anushka’s post with a heart, Kajal Aggarwal wrote, “Lots of love to little Vamika.”
Virat and Anushka were blessed with a baby girl on January 11. The couple had earlier sent a note to the paparazzi fraternity in Mumbai, where they requested them not to post pictures of their child. “While we will always ensure that you get all the content you need featuring us, we would request you to kindly not take or carry any content that has our child. We know that you will understand where we are coming from and we thank you for the same,” read an excerpt from their statement.
Virat’s brother Vikas Kohli sent the Internet into a frenzy when he shared a picture of tiny feet peeping out of a cosy blanket. He, however, later clarified that it was a “random picture”, and not the first photo of Virat and Anushka’s baby. “Guys, let me clarify that the picture I posted yesterday to congratulate Anushka and Virat is a random picture and not the actual picture of the baby — like some media channels are reporting. Posting to clarify,” he wrote.
The couple first met on the sets of a shampoo commercial and dated for four years before getting married in a private ceremony in Tuscany, Italy in 2017. They announced their pregnancy in August last year. Ever since the announcement, Anushka Sharma had been sharing her thoughts about this new journey in life. She had shared a photo flaunting her baby bump and wrote, “Nothing is more real and humbling than experiencing the creation of life in you. When this is not in your control then really what is?”
The actor, however, drew flak when she posted a picture of her performing Shirshasana while being late into the pregnancy.
Meanwhile, Virushka fans (as the couple are fondly called) speculated heavily as to what the couple would name their daughter. In fact, rumour on social media was that they have decided to call her Anvi.
