Meanwhile, while interacting with the media, Abhimanyu's father Ambili Kumar confirmed that he was not a political activist. He said, "Abhimanyu is a tenth class student and got an examination today. He never gets involved in any violence or dispute. His brother Anandhu is a DYFI activist. Even though all the family members are communists, Abhimanyu was never active in politics."

The CPM had alleged conspiracy behind Abhimanyu's murder. According to reports, the DYFI activists in the area had opposed the drug mafia working under RSS. It is reportedly said that the incident that resulted in the death of Abhimanyu was the continuation of an early spat that happened a few days back at a temple festival.
