Telugu actor-politician Chiranjeevi announced in a tweet today that he was Covid positive. The 65-year-old veteran actor said that he took a Covid-19 test before resuming his shoot for his upcoming film Acharya, as part of the safety protocol.

He tweeted, "Took a test for COVID before resuming 'Acharya' shoot as a protocol and unfortunately tested positive." He added that he is "currently asymptomatic" and that he is quarantined at home.

Chiranjeevi has requested that all the people who have come in his contact in the last few days to get themselves tested. "Request all those who met me in the last 5 few days to also undergo Covid tests. Will update you on my recovery soon," he tweeted. In September, Chiranjeevi’s brother and actor Nagababu tested positive for the coronavirus.

Acharya is a big-budget film that is being directed by Koratala Siva. The shooting came to a halt when the lockdown was announced in March. Kajal Aggarwal is the female lead.

Just a few days before announcing that he has contracted the virus, Chiranjeevi had met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao along with actor Akkineni Nagarjuna to donate a sum of Rs 1 crore for the Hyderabad flood relief fund. A photograph from their meeting was widely circulated on social media. Both the CM as well as the actor were seen without masks in the photo.

Telangana reported 857 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total tally to 2.51 lakh while four more deaths pushed the toll to 1,381.
