Two women officers elected to take helm of Kerala IPS Association

In a landmark move, the Kerala IPS Association has elected senior IPS officer and State DGP and Commandant General of Fire Force R Sreelekha as the president of the association and IG (South Zone) Harshitha Attalluri as its secretary. It is for the first time that women have been elected as key office bearers of the association.

The office bearers were elected as per the new bylaw. As per the bylaw, the senior most DGP, with the exception of the State police chief, can be considered for the post of president if he/she is willing. Although Rishiraj Singh, DGP (prisons and correctional services) was first choice for the position, Sreekala was selected for the post when Rishiraj expressed unwillingness to be president of the association.

The association recently cleared new by-laws that permit the association to select a secretary through elections.

Harishitha, was elected unopposed as no one else had filed a nomination for the position. SP (Vigilance) Harishanker was elected as the joint secretary of the association.

ADGP (Armed Police Battalion) K Padmakumar was elected as the members representing ADGPs in the executive committee while P Vijayan, IG (Headquarters) is the representative of the IGs. K Prakash, DIG (Armed Police Battalion) has been elected as the representative of the DIGs and SPs Rahul R Nair and R Adhithya, the representative of the SPs.
