On Friday, Kerala witnessed an act of cruelty in which a pet dog was tied to the boot of a moving car and dragged down the road near Athani, Ernakulam. The brutal act was caught on camera by two youths who managed to stop the vehicle.

With reports of cruelty against animals popping up frequently and seemingly increasing during this Covid-19 pandemic, Kerala Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala’s touching Facebook post comes as a whiff of fresh air.

In his post, Chennithala says he was disquieted by the gruesome incident of animal cruelty, which took place in Kochi. The Minister goes on to talk about his pet dog Scooby.

In the post, Chennithala says how at first, he was devastated when he discovered that Scooby was visually impaired. However, he soon found himself loving his pet even more.

He says, ‘Dogs love their owners more than their own body. Treat them with love. If you love them, these harmless animals will love you more. Not only humans but these animals are also heirs to this world.”

According to Chennithala, upon reaching his house in Thiruvananthapuram after completing the last phase of the Kasaragod campaign, Scooby scampered towards him immediately with love.

Scooby was purchased by Chennithala’s youngest son, Ramith, two and a half years ago. The puppy soon became a part of the family. Later, they discovered that Scooby lacked proper eyesight. Although it was tough for them to accept the fact at first, they soon accepted the reality.

The Opposition Leader highlights the generally accepted fact that states ‘it is true that God would give other abilities to make up one’s weaknesses.’ Scooby has overcome his blindness with his sharp ears and nose, says Chennithala in the post.
