Why is political strategist Prashant Kishor trending on Twitter after attack on Mamata Banerjee?

Noted Indian political strategist Prashant Kishor has been trending on Twitter following the attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that left her injured at Nandigram. On Wednesday night, the West Bengal Chief Minister alleged that she was attacked by four-five unidentified men while boarding her car in Nandigram. Mamata claimed that she was manhandled and the car door was shut on her.

Hours later, several Twitter users alleged that Kishor is behind the attack so that Mamata can gain sympathy before the West Bengal Assembly elections and possibly win the elections. Here is one of those Twitter users:

Many Twitter users made the same claim that Kishor, who has helped several Chief Ministerial candidates come to power, used the same tactics. Twitterati used the examples of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

These Twitter users claim that just before their respective state elections, both Chief Minister candidates were attacked. Kejriwal was slapped while campaigning in the 2014 and 2019 elections. A youth attacked Reddy with a knife leaving him injured at the Visakhapatnam airport and he was hospitalised soon after. Coincidently, both leaders went on to win the next elections.

Twitter users also found similarities that both Kejriwal and Mamata chanted Hindu religious mantras during their campaigning. While campaigning during the Delhi elections, Kejriwal was asked to prove if he was a follower of Lord Hanuman. To prove he is, Kejriwal recited the Hanuman Chalisa. During an election campaign in Nandigram district on Tuesday, Mamata recited the Chandi path mantras.

Twitter users mocked Kishor and Mamata, stating that the duo should get the “Oscar for Best Director and Best Actor”, respectively.

If the allegations are proven, then the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could expose Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). BJP could go on to win the election and form a government in West Bengal. The 294-seat West Bengal Assembly elections will begin on March 27 and it will be held in eight phases.
