With the assembly elections just months away, West Bengal Bharatiya Janatha Party chief Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday has claimed that around 50 Trinamool Congress MLA will join the BJP in February.

“I ask Jyotipriya Mallick to persuade even one booth president to join his party. If he manages to do it, then I will accept his claim. At least 50 TMC MLAs will join the BJP next month,” Ghosh said.

Ghosh’s statement came a day after West Bengal minister Mallick claimed that MLAs who quit TMC recently are willing to rejoin the party before the Assembly elections are due in West Bengal.

“Six to seven MPs will immediately join TMC within the first week of May (before the election). The MLAs who left the party recently are lining up to join back. Bankura MLA Tushar Babu rejoined TMC yesterday,” Mallick said on Tuesday.

The path to West Bengal Assembly elections is getting spicier as the countdown begins. BJP and TMC have been at each other’s throats since last year. Former minister Suvendu Adhikari left TMC and joined BJP in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah. Suvenud's resignation from the party led to a domino effect has many MLAs and MPs resigned from TMC and joined the BJP. Not just TMC but the CPM has also lost a few cadres to the saffron party.
