Through the reforms brought out by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Central government has entitled male employees of the government to Child Care Leave (CCL). Male employees will be eligible to receive 730 days of child care leave before their children reach the age of 18.

The provision and privilege of CCL will however be available only for those male employees who are a ‘single male parent’. This include male employees who are widowers, divorced or even unmarried men and may therefore be expected to take the responsibility of child care as single-handed parent, said Union Minister Jitendra Singh, while briefing some of the major reforms brought out by DoPT. He adds that although the orders regarding this had been issued a while ago, it did not receive enough circulation in the public.

According to the release, Leave Travel Concession may be availed by the employee even if he is on Child Care Leave. The release further states that another welfare measure introduced is that in the case of a physically challenged child. Child Care Leave can be availed by a government servant for a physically challenged child of any age.
