The Telangana High Court took suo moto cognizance of the matter a day after the brutal murder of a lawyer couple on a busy highway in the Peddapalli district of Telangana. Chief Justice Hima Kohli called the incident “most unfortunate” and said that severe actions will be taken against the culprits. Besides, the Court has issued notices to the state government calling for a thorough probe into the incident.
On Wednesday afternoon, lawyer couple G Vaman Rao and his wife G Nagamani, who practised at the Telangana High Court were waylaid by unidentified assailants while they were on their way to Hyderabad. The attackers pulled the couple out of their vehicle and hacked to death.
According to reports, a week ago, Vaman Rao has taken a minor girl to the State Human Rights Commission when she was allegedly raped by her uncle and the police were accused of dragging the case. Witnesses shot videos of the incident on Wednesday but did not offer any help to the couple. The Court ordered to preserve all material evidence in the case with care. The Chief Justice even directed Advocate General BS Prasad to file a status report on the ongoing investigation.
Reportedly, the couple had lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Justice of Telangana claiming that their lives were under threat. The incident has sent shockwaves across the state. The Bar Association and other organisations have condemned the attack and sought an immediate arrest of the culprits.
