The Madras High Court has filed suo moto cognizance of the alleged sexual harassment case of an IPS woman officer by a senior Special DCP in Tamil Nadu. According to reports, the woman IPS officer has filed a complaint with the Director-General of Police, Chennai, alleging that Special DGP Rajesh Das misbehaved with her in his vehicle while they were on their way to Ulundurpet district for a bandobast duty on February 21.

On Monday, an FIR has been filed against DGP Rajesh Das and SP D Kannan. The woman officer has accused Das of sexual harassment while claiming that Kannan tried to restrict her from filing a complaint in this case. The FIR has been filed under section 354 of the IPC along with sections 3 and 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.

Earlier, the Tamil Nadu Home Department has introduced a six-member inquiry committee to investigate the complaint by the woman IPS officer. The team was headed by additional chief secretary Jayashree Raghunandan.

This is not the first case alleging sexual harassment against IPS officers in Tamil Nadu. In 2018, a Tamil Nadu woman Superintendent of Police accused S Murugan IPS the then Joint Director in the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption of sexually harassing her.

Meanwhile, earlier, DMK leader Kanimozhi had tweeted alleging that the government was dragging its feet and not acting based on the officer's complaint.
