The Income-tax department is conducting raids at the houses and offices of actress Taapsee Pannu, director/producers Anurag Kashyap and Vikas Bahl, among others involved with the now-defunct Phantom Films.

Phantom Films was a film production and distribution company established by Kashyap, director Vikramaditya Motwane, producer Madhu Mantena and Vikas Bahl in 2011. Reliance entertainment had a 50% stake in the company.

According to reports, the I-T department is conducting searches at the properties of those involved with Phantom Films production for alleged tax evasion. Reports suggest that I-T raids are currently underway in 22 locations in Mumbai and Pune. It is also reported that raids are underway at the houses of Reliance Entertainment

The company has produced some successful films such as Udta Punjab and Queen, among others. However, Kashyap, Motwane and Mantena announced that the company was heading for dissolution in 2018 after a former employee made sexual assault allegations against Bahl.

Taapsee and Anurag are quite vocal on various national issues and have supported various causes such as the ongoing farmers’ protest, Citizenship Amendment Act, etc. Taapsee also took a jibe at the Centre over their campaign against propaganda. In a tweet, Taapsee said that the value system must be strengthened and not become ‘propaganda teachers’ for others.

On March 1, Taapsee took to Twitter to express her disgust over the Supreme Court question to a man accused of raping a minor girl.

The Court asked the man if he will marry the victim. The Court’s question raised eyebrows and has been a talking point on social media.
