Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has announced via his social media account that he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is in self-isolation. He has also asked those in close contact with him to go into quarantine.
Meanwhile, since becoming the Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Rawat has made some bizarre and shocking statements that have led to an uproar and plenty of trolls on social media.
During an event to commemorate the International Day of Forests in Nainital on Sunday, Rawat said that poor families should have 20 children if they want more ration. Due to the pandemic, the central government was allotting 5kg of rations per household. Rawat brushed off rumours that families with fewer children were getting lesser rations in comparison to those having more children.
“Every household was given 5kg rations. If 10 people in a home get 50kg, then 20 people get a quintal (100 kg) of ration. However, some were jealous that two people got 10kg and 20 people got more. When there was time, you only gave birth to two children. Why didn’t you give birth to 20,” Rawat asked. The statement has shocked many citizens across the country.
The Uttarakhand Chief Minister also made a big blunder when he said that "America enslaved India for 200 years". “The situation would have been worse if someone else was in place of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of the county. India is in a much better position compared to other countries like America which enslaved us for 200 years and ruled the world once. It was said that the sun never used to set in its empire,” Rawat said.
