During the first Covid-19 lockdown in the country, there were many instances of police beating people over not following protocols. However, a year after the original lockdown started, the same police brutality can still be witnessed in the country. In the latest incident, two Madhya Pradesh police officers have been suspended for brutally beating someone for not wearing a mask.

The officers assaulted a 35-year-old man in front of the latter’s teenage son was at Feroz Gandhi Nagar under Pardeshipura police station in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Video footage of the incident is being widely circulated on social media. Following the incident, official sources said that the two police officers were suspended following the incident. However, police sources claim that the man was the first to insult and assault the police officers. Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Bagri said that the two policemen involved in the video footage had been suspended and asked the city superintendent to investigate the incident further.

According to police reports, the man had been outside without wearing a mask, and the accused officers had stopped him and asked him to explain why he was flouting Covid protocols. Police added that the youth had abused and assaulted one of the constables and that other cases were pending against the man. However, the young man’s claimed that his father’s mask was under his beard and that the police were not ready to listen to his words.
