Kannur BJP workers attack vehicle of woman in labour; BJP leaders deny knowledge of incident

BJP workers destroy a vehicle carrying a woman in labour during a road show in the Kalliasseri constituency in Kannur. The 29 year old woman was en route to the hospital when BJP workers on bikes began attacking the vehicle. The vehicle was said to have been attacked by around 20 BJP workers.

The woman who was brutally injured during the incident was admitted to a private hospital. While the police have said that they would look into the matter and book the culprits, BJP leaders have denied knowledge of the incident.

Meanwhile, reports say that Antony John, an LDF candidate in Ernakulam was attacked while campaigning near a school ground. He was supposedly attacked by a UDF activist in public. Antony’s shirt was reportedly torn and is said to have suffered minor injuries. Three CPM workers who came in Antony’s aid were also said to have been attacked. The CPM has said that the attack is part of a conspiracy to malign the image of the candidate.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 30 will address rallies in Kerala in the morning and Puducherry and Tamil Nadu in the afternoon. The prime minister is going to hold the public rallies as a part of BJP’s campaign in the three poll-bound states.

The election for the 140-member Kerala Assembly will be held on April 6 in over 40,771 polling stations.
