Jayalalithaa biopic 'Thalaivi' to hit theatres on April 23

The makers of Thalaivi, the biopic of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, announced that the movie will hit theatres on April 23 this year. The announcement was made on the occasion of the 73rd birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa.

Kangana Ranaut, who plays the title role in the movie, shared a post on social media regarding the release date of the movie.

Actor Arvind Swami will play Maruthur Gopala Ramachandran (MGR) in Thalaivi. Earlier, the actor had shared a few pictures of his new look of as MGR and wrote, "It was not just an honour to play the role of Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, but a great responsibility. I thank director AL Vijay and producers Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh for having faith in me. I humbly post these pics in Thalaivar's memory, today."

Due to the pandemic, the film's shooting was halted for a few months last year. The movie shooting resumed in October 2020 after seven months.
For the much-awaited biopic on J Jayalalithaa, Kangana Ranaut had undergone a massive prosthetic transformation and even gained 20 kg for the movie. The movie is directed by AL Vijay and produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shaailesh R Singh. The trilingual will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
