Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, wife Melinda announce divorce after 27 years of marriage

Putting an end to 27 years of marriage, Bill Gates and Melinda announced that they are divorcing, but would continue to work together at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the largest charitable foundations in the world.

Through identical tweets, the Microsoft co-founder and his wife made the announcement of them parting away. In a statement, they said that they have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. Also, they added, "We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life."

Bill Gates was formerly one of the world's richest people with an estimated worth of $100 billion. 1n 1994, Bill and Melinda got married in Hawaii. In 1987, Bill met Melinda when she joined Microsoft as a product manager. Their foundation is the most influential private foundation in the world. Since 2000, the foundation focuses on global health and development and US education issues.

In 2015, Melinda launched her private Pivotal Ventures investment and incubation company and most recently partnered with Scott for a newly announced equity challenge.

Earlier, last year, Bill announced that he was stepping down from Microsoft's board to give more importance to philanthropy. Until 2000, he was the CEO of Microsoft and later he reduced his involvement in the company which he jointly started with Paul Allen in 1975.
