Climate activist Greta Thunberg, singer Rihanna extend support to farmers' protest in Delhi

Rihanna tweeted: 'Why are we not talking about it?' Her tweet didn't sit well with BJP supporters and actress Kangana Ranaut who attacked the singer on Twitter

As farmers' continue to protest at Delhi borders against the farm bills, more personalities started to express their solidarity with the agitating farmers. After pop singer Rihanna, teen environmental activist Greta Thunberg extended her support to the farmers' protest.

Through a tweet, she expressed her solidarity with the protesting farmers on Tuesday.

In 2018, the Swedish climate activist's 'Fridays for Future' gained widespread attention and was shot to fame. In the following year, she was invited to attend the United Nations Climate Action Summit. In March 2020, Greta addressed EU legislators at the Environment Council at the European Parliament in Brussels. Greta, who is nominated for this year's Nobel Prize, had criticized conducting NEET and JEE examinations during the Covid-19 pandemic in India in 2020.

The singer's tweet is trending, gaining mixed reactions including actress Kangana Ranaut, who reacted to the tweet expressing her strong dislike.

Ranaut's tweet attacking Rihanna got netizens talking. While some made memes, some were appalled by the language used by the Bollywood actress. One user also asked Twitter India to block Ranaut for calling farmers as terrorist

For over the last two months, farmers from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh have been agitating demanding the repeal of farm bills passed by the Parliament in September last year. On Republic Day, as a part of the protests, the farmers' unions organized tractor rally that led to violence between the police and protestors at Delhi.
