Former US President Donald Trump, who was banned from social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook, on Tuesday (local time) unveiled a new "communications platform". The site, called ‘From the Desk of Donald J Trump’ is actually just a WordPress blog on his own website. This platform is launched so that Trump can post pictures, videos, comments, and articles and opinions on various topics.
The platform is said to have been built by Campaign Nucleus, a digital services company founded by Brad Parscale, Trump's former campaign manager.
The move comes a day before a decision from Facebooks Inc’s oversight board on whether to uphold Trump’s suspension from the platform. Trump was barred from a slew of social media platforms following the storming of his followers of the US Capital on January 6.
His followers can sign up for posts alerts on the platforms via their email and phone numbers. The posts from Trump can be shared and liked. However, what is interesting is that the features on the platform do not allow a user to reply on the posts, therefore making it a ‘one-way communication platform.
Trump’s spokesman Jason Miller said on Twitter that the new website is "a great resource to find his latest statements and highlights from his first term in office," but added "this is not a new social media platform. We''ll have additional information coming on that front in the very near future."
