DMK supporter fulfils vow, cuts off tongue upon MK Stalin's victory in Tamil Nadu

A 32-year-old woman was rushed to the nearby local hospital for allegedly cutting of her tongue. The woman, who was bleeding heavily from her mouth, was discovered by passersby at the entry of a local Muthamalamman temple at Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu. According to reports, the woman had cut off her tongue to fulfil a vow she had made. She had promised to offer the deity her tongue if the DMK party returned to power in Tamil Nadu.

This is said to be the second reported case in the last one month in Tamil Nadu where such fanatic love for political leaders and movie stars are a norm. Last month, on April 4, a DMK worker chopped off one of his fingers while praying at the Mariyamman temple, to ensure the party’s victory and to Stalin donning the role of Chief Minister. It is said that Guruvaiaya, who was disappointed that Stalin did not become a CM in 2011 or 2016, has been praying at the said temple every year. On the last day of campaign for Tamil Nadu polls on April 4, Guruvaiaya chopped off one of his fingers as an offering to the deity. He was rushed to the nearby Government Hospital by the locals.

The AIADMK had to provide compensation worth lakhs as a few supporters from various districts took their lives as Jayalalithaa was convicted in a case in 2015. The state also witnessed some deaths by suicide the following year after the charismatic leader’s death.

The DMK has won 133 of the 234 seats in the 2021 assembly elections.
