Advocate Vibitha Babu, UDF candidate from the Mallappally division of Pathanamthitta, who had gone viral on social media, did not transfer the popularity to the real world. LDF candidate CK Lathakumari defeated Vibitha in the local body polls.
Vibitha has been trailing since the counting of postal votes LDF’s Lathakumari won 10,469 while Vibitha only got 9,178 votes. During the election campaign, Vibitha’s photos had created waves on social media. However, those social media likes didn’t favour her in the just-concluded local body elections. She even posted a note on Facebook stating that despite election results she will continue to work for the betterment of people.
Besides, Reshma Mariam Roy, the youngest candidate in the state, has won the election as an LDF candidate. She has scripted history being the youngest panchayat ward member. Reshma bagged 450 votes against the UDF candidate Sujatha Mohan, who only secured 380 votes.
Interestingly, on November 18, a day before the last day to file nomination, Reshma turned 21. Hence, she filed her nomination on November 19. She was contesting from the 11th ward of Aruvapalam panchayat, Pathanamthitta.
Meanwhile, veteran political leader PC George’s son Advocate Shone George won the election by defeating candidates of major political alliances — UDF, LDF and NDA. The Janapaksham candidate contested from Poonjar division of Kottayam district panchayat.
