A worker and at least two others were injured when an oxygen cylinder exploded during refilling at Uttar Pradesh’s Panki Oxygen Plant in Kanpur. The deceased has been identified as Imrad Ali, an oxygen plant worker. While one injured person is being treated at the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, another has been discharged.

The accident is said to have occurred 4:30 am on Friday when cylinders of the Royal Children Hospital were being refilled. Further details are awaited.

Meanwhile, a 49-year-old man died in an explosion that took place on March 26 at an unused oxygen plant of Markandeya Sahakari Hospital in Solapur district of Maharashtra. The plant is said not to have been in use since early March.

The man, who was sitting near the plant at the time of the blast, died in the wee hours of the day. Hanmant Kshirsagar fell unconscious after the blast and died during treatment, said an official.

The deceased's family has alleged that the death was caused due to the blast and have filed a complaint application with the police.

Deputy commissioner of the Solapur Municipal Corporation Dhanraj Pandey said an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

"As per preliminary information from doctors, Kshirsagar could have died of a heart attack. However, the exact reason for the death will be ascertained only after a post-mortem," he said.
