Alia Bhatt launches production house; to produce dark comedy with Shah Rukh
Alia Bhatt is all set to don a new hat. The actress who played her first leading role in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year in 2012 will be starting her own production company –Eternal Sunshine Productions. Alia shared the logo of the production house on Instagram. The logo showcases a kitten holding a fish balloon. She shared the logo and wrote, "And I am so happy to announce.... PRODUCTION!! Eternal Sunshine Productions. Let us tell you tales. Happy tales. Warm and fuzzy tales. Real tales. Timeless tales. @eternalsunshineproduction."
The 27-year-old, who has starred in films such as 2 States, Dear Zindagi, Highway and Gully Boy also announced the first movie to be made under her banner, in which she will be starring and is co-produced with superstar Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Production. "Announcing #Darlings, my first ever production under @eternalsunshineproduction, in association with my fav @iamsrks @redchilliesent!", wrote Alia.
Darlings, a dark comedy, is set against the backdrop of a conservative lower middle-class neighbourhood in Mumbai, is said to be a story of a mother-daughter duo, who finds courage and love in exceptional circumstances. Alia, Shah Rukh and the rest of the team unveiled the film’s teaser, which ends with a “statutory warning”, “Offending women can be very dangerous for your health.”
Ranveer Singh, Riteish Deshmukh and Zoya Akhtar were among others who congratulated Alia, who launched a fully homegrown clothing line for kids aged between 2 to 14 years, called Ed-a-Mamma! last November, on her production house. Alia’s mother, veteran actor Soni Razdan wrote, “Congratulations! Super duper proud.”
Meanwhile, the teaser of Alia’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, has been receiving rave reviews. She plays the titular character of Gangubai Kathiawadi, the head of the Kamathipura brothel of Mumbai in the '60s. Celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, SS Rajamouli, Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar went gaga over her avatar in the film.
Alia who crooned the unplugged version of Samjhawan (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania), Humsafar (Badrinath Ki Dulhania) and Ikk Kudi (Udta Punjab), is rumoured to be lending her voice to one of the songs in this period drama. Gangubai Kathiawadi is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It is based on the book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, written by author S Hussain Zaidi. The film will hit theatres on July 30, 2021. Alia will be also seen in SS Rajamouli's RRR and Karan Johar's Takht.
