13 Covid patients die in hospital fire at Maharashtra; 30 patients escape Covid Centre in Tripura

Thirteen patients are said to have died in a hospital fire at Virar in Palghar district, Maharashtra, early this morning.

As per the police, a fire broke out in hospital’s ICU at 3 am. The fire, according to District Control Cell chief Vivekanand Kadam, was supposedly caused by an explosion in the AC unit of the intensive care unit. Fire fighters from the Vasai Virur Municipal Corporation put out the fire within an hour said Kadam.

Meanwhile, 30 Covid positive patients escaped from a Covid Centre at Agartala, Tripura, by breaking a window open. The patients, who are all in their early twenties are from various states and had come to participate in a recruitment rally of Tripura State Rifles. Their absence was noticed during breakfast the next day.

“We have their addresses and mobile numbers. We traced the location of the escapees but they have managed to leave Tripura. AN FIR has been registered against them,” said West Tripura District Magistrate Shailesh Kumar Yadav. The Tripura government has also alerted the respective state governments about the fleeing youths.

Out of the 30 who fled, 14 are said to be from Bihar, seven from Uttar Pradesh, six from Rajasthan and one each from Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.

In the meantime, Tripura has mandated that all incoming passengers carry a Covid-19 negative report from Saturday.
