The Covid -19 vaccination drive will take place in the state four days a week – Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. There are currently 133 vaccination centres. Only 100 people will be vaccinated at each centre per day. The vaccination drive is from 9 am to 5 pm. Those registered for the drive will receive an SMS alert regarding the vaccination centre. Every vaccinated person will have to remain under observation at the centre for 30 minutes. Apart from standby ambulances, all the vaccination centres are equipped with Adverse Events Following Immunisation kits.

According to Health Minister KK Shailaja, none of the 8062 frontline workers who took the vaccination on the inaugural day of the drive have complained about any side effects. As the vaccination drive in small centres was completed on January 16, more centres will be opened across the State. For instance, new vaccination centres will begin at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College on Monday and at the Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital on Tuesday.

Ernakulam is said to have the highest number of vaccination centres – 12, while Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode have 11 centres each.

Currently, it’s the health workers who are being vaccinated. “After their turn, it would be other frontline Covid-19 workers like the Police, Revenue Department officials involved in Covid 19 prevention activities, municipal worker and anganwadi workers,” said KK Shailaja.

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan announced on Sunday that over 2.24 lakh people have been vaccinated against Covid 19 till now.

“More than 2. 24 lakh people vaccinated against Covid 19 till now. 17,072 beneficiaries vaccinated in 6 States on day 2. Three cases of post-vaccination hospitalisation reported. India vaccinates the highest number of persons on day 1 of the nationwide Covid 19 vaccination drive; more than many other countries,” Vardhan said in a tweet.

Since the pandemic hit India in early 2020, over one crore and 5.27 lakh people have been infected with the disease, while close to 1.52 lakh people have died. At present, Kerala and Maharasthra are reporting the highest number of daily cases. Kerala on Sunday recorded 5,005 new Covid cases after testing 52, 310 samples.

Meanwhile, four MLAs have been confirmed with Covid 19 – Neyyatinkara MLA Ansalan, Kollam MLA and actor Mukesh, Biji Mol and K Dasan. All four had attended the budget presentation at the assembly. The session was cut short in wake of the virus.
