They are targetting me because I am Shamseer's wife, reacts Shahala over illegal appointment row

While reacting to a media organization over back door appointment row in Kannur University, MLA AN Shamseer's wife Dr Shahala said that she is being targeted using unnecessary allegations. She reportedly said that allegations raised against her were to humiliate Shamseer.

She said, "I have the necessary qualification for the post of HRD Assistant Director, Kannur University. The Court's gave its verdict without listening to my side. As the wife of a legislator, how can I be avoided for the post intentionally." She further added that it is a personal attack against her and she is unaware of the reasons.

Shahala explained that she had applied for the post after seeing a newspaper advertisement and the post was not created for her. She said, "I had attended the interview like how all the other candidates did. I haven't used any influence. If appointments are invited for eligible posts, then I will apply and attend it. I have all the rights for that."

Earlier, there were allegations that MLA AN Shamseer had violated rules to appoint his wife in Kannur University. This is not the first time such controversies are happening.

The Save University Forum has complained that despite the code of conduct, Shahala is being appointed to the permanent post of Assistant Director at the UGC HRD Centre at Kannur University by violating rules. The Forum had lodged a complaint on this matter with the Governor and the Election Commission.

On June 30, 2020, the notification for the post was issued. The State government had given special permission to the university to create a permanent post of Assistant Director even though the posts in the HRD Centers are temporary as per the UGC provision.

Normally, in other universities only a maximum of 10 candidates with high score points for appointments to a post was invited for the post, 30 candidates were invited for a single post in Kannur alone had created controversy. The allegation was that the move to invite 30 candidates was to include Shamseer's wife within the cut-off mark.
