Thachankary or Sudesh Kumar for DGP post?; Kozhikode youth arrested for post on Kerala police

With current Director General of Police (DGP) Loknath Behera set to step down from the post on June 30, hectic lobbying is reportedly underway for the post. Although DGP (Prisons) is said to be the senior most officer after Behera, Tomin J Thachankary and Sudesh Kumar of the Indian Police Service are reportedly front runners to bag the coveted post.

Meanwhile, according to reports, Behera could leave his post in May if he is named the director of CBI.

Thachankary , who is from the 1987 IPS batch and was promoted to the rank of DGP in September, 2020 is rumoured to have a better chance for the post. While the Vigilance is currently reinvestigating a case of illegal acquisition of property against Thachankary, Sudesh Kumar was an officer involved in the police slave controversy. Reports say that the police headquarters is trying to settle a crime branch case against Sudesh Kumar’s daughter for assaulting a police driver. Both lobbies are currently trying to one up the other by reigniting old incidents.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested a Kozhikode youth who supposedly commented in Malayalam that one should run over the children of policemen and kill them. The police is said to have investigated the matter when Prajilesh Payambra’s said Facebook comment was widely circulated. Police arrested Prajilesh with the assistance of the cyber police.
