Post-poll violence: Muslim league activist hacked to death allegedly by CPM workers in Kannur
Just hours after the completion of Kerala Assembly polls, a Muslim League activist died in a clash between CPM and Muslim League workers in Kadavathoor, Kannur. The deceased has been identified as Paral Mansoor, a native of Chokli, Pullookkara in Kuthuparamaba. He was hacked to death by a gang in the violence at around 8 pm last night.
Mansoor's brother Muhasin was also admitted to the hospital due to serious injuries. The UDF has called for a hartal in Koothuparamba as a protest against Mansoor's murder. Reportedly, the IUML Kannur district committee said that the violence was carried out by CPM.
On Tuesday, a gang of alleged CPM workers barged into the house of Mansoor after creating a scary atmosphere by hurling bombs into the house. When the gang attacked Muhasin, his brother Mansoor tried to stop them and the attackers hacked Mansoor also.
The attack followed an argument between the Muslim League and CPM workers after the poll. Both of them were initially taken to Thalassery Indira Gandhi hospital and from there to a private hospital at Kozhikode. On Wednesday, at around 1 am, The death of Mansoor was confirmed.
According to reports, following the incident, the police have taken a CPM worker Shinoj, who is also the neighbor of Mansoor into custody. While reacting over the incident, Kerala Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala tweeted, "Another mother has lost her son due to CPM violence. CPM has killed UDF cadre, Mansoor. Fear and frustration of losing power are evident in these attacks. Instead of protecting the killers from the law, CPM and LDF Govt should ensure strict punishment for the killers"
