Ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, PC Thomas leaves National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and has joined the United Democratic Front (UDF). The Kerala Congress factions of PJ Joseph and PC Thomas will align together and contest in the upcoming Assembly. They will be submitting the application to get the symbol of a cycle for their candidates and will be not be using the chair symbol.

According to reports, PC Thomas will be attending UDF's election convention, which is scheduled in Kottayam's Kaduthuruthy. He was forced to leave NDA as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did not offer Thomas's party the promised seat according to the understanding they had reached with the faction.

Earlier, PC Thomas had said that his party will be leaving NDA alleging that none of the promised seats and membership in various boards were fulfilled.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Sobha Surendran will be contesting from Kazhakoottam. It is after many twists and suspense and also with the intervention of the central leadership, the BJP has decided the candidate for the seat. Reportedly, Sobha would begin her campaign from Thursday onwards. On Sunday, BJP had released the candidate list, but, the Kazhakoottam seat was kept vacant.
