A Covid-19 positive prisoner has reportedly escaped from the isolation ward of Thodupuzha district hospital during quarantine. Police have launched a massive search in nearby areas to catch the escapee.

According to reports, the police took the 17-year-old prisoner into custody on charges of theft. As per protocol, a prisoner must undergo Covid-19 tests before being taken to jail. The prisoner in question took an antigen test and the results came back positive.

The police admitted him to an isolation ward at Thodupuzha district hospital but left him without protection. Noticing that there were no police around, the teenager made his escape from the isolation ward. Following his disappearance, police immediately launched a search in nearby places but reportedly could not trace him.

Reportedly, the teenager and an accomplice stole 11 phones and other accessories from a mobile shop in Thodupuzha. But as fate would have it, the teenager landed before the police and his accomplice escaped from the scene. Police also suspect that the teenager and his accomplice robbed Rs 5,000 from a street vendor. Reportedly, the search from the teenager is still on.
