A 24-year-old newly-wed bride was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. The deceased is Athira, a native of Vettur near Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram. Athira was found dead in the bathroom of her husband, Sarath’s house at 11.45 am yesterday.

According to the police, Athira’s mother Santha had come to visit her at around 10 am. At the time, her husband had taken his father to a hospital in Kollam district. When Sarath returned, he found the bathroom door locked from inside and broke open the door to find Athira lying in a pool of blood.

Athira’s father-in-law Pushpankaran told a news channel that he has doubts over her death. “One cannot just cut the neck and nerves on their own. There were no disputes at home,” he said.

Police are still investigating the matter. The preliminary assumption is that Athira could have died of suicide as they found cuts on her neck and wrists. Her husband is currently in police custody. Athira and Sarath got married on November 30, 2020.
