According to reports, nearly 11 SBI account holders in Vadakara lodged a complaint that they lost money from their bank accounts without their knowledge. More than Rs 1,85,000 was lost from their accounts and the eleven people have already filed a complaint on the matter at the Vadakara police station.

Reportedly, Aparna, an engineering student from Vadakara's Meppayil lost around Rs 20,000 from her bank account. On Saturday, at around 3.55 pm, 20,000 was withdrawn from her SBI account by unidentified persons. However, the message on withdrawal suggests that the money was withdrawn using an ATM card, but Aparna says that she has the ATM card in her possession and has not shared the PIN number with anyone. In the incident, Aparna, the third years engineering student of Thalassery Cooperative Engineering College, lost her scholarship amount.

Thomas from Vadakara's Puthiyappmala lost Rs 40,000 from his SBI account. The total amount of Rs 40,000 was withdrawn four times as Rs 10,000 each time. The amount was withdrawn in minutes difference. It is suspected that the ATM card details and PIN number might have leaked.

According to police, somebody having very knowledge about technology is the mastermind behind this planned crime. The investigation's prime focus would be to identify how the information on chipped ATM got leaked. The help of Cyber Cell has will also be incorporated, said officials.
