The naked body of a woman found drowned near Pirayumoodu in Neyyar, Thiruvananthapuram, has invited the attention of the city. The officials have identified the deceased as Suja, who is a native of Karakulam in the district.
Suja had reportedly moved into a rented house in Pirayumoodu with Unnikrishnan, who hails from Aralammoodu, three days ago. According to residents at Pirayumoodu, Unnikrishnan had introduced Suja as his wife. However, her relatives say that Suja was already married and has an 11-year-old son. Unnikrishnan, they say, is someone she had entered into a relationship with.
Police have taken Unnikrishnan into custody, where he told officers that they had gone to Neyyar to take a bath. She had fallen into the depths and drowned there, he added. However, according to sources, he had escaped the location soon after she had drowned, and the a few people who spotted her body informed the police. Reportedly, Unnikrishnan did not try to help her nor did he call for help, and this has invited more mystery into the matter.
Meanwhile, Suja’s husband Varadarajan has filed a complaint with the DYSP to probe into the matter. The police officers informed that a conclusion would be reached after receiving the post mortem report stating the cause of death. Until then, Unnikrishnan will be kept in custody.
