Minority communalism more dangerous than majority communalism, says LDF convenor A Vijayaraghavan

Speaking at an event as part of the LDF’s rally, the acting CPM State Secretary A Vijayaraghavan said that “minority communalism is the worst kind” and that we cannot ally with “minority communalism to fight majoritarian communalism”. He adds that by using minority communalism to fight majority communalism, “we are rationalising the violence of the latter”.

This has invited criticism from various quarters, including the BJP. Importantly, Indian Union Muslim League General Secretary KPA Majeed said that the LDF convenor Vijayaraghavan’s comments point to CPM’s communal agenda. On the other hand, the CPM leader explained that it is all a media invention.

“I never said that minority communalism is the worst kind. My speech was misinterpreted by the media. We don’t change our stance for a few votes, in fact, we might lose some when we stand for the truth,” he said. However, the video recording of the event shows that he did make the comment. In his latest update, the LDF convenor noted that majority communalism is more dangerous since it is accompanied by those in power in the country.

Meanwhile, the LDF is targeting K Sudhakaran for his comments on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his father. This is the second time that the MP has targeted Pinarayi Vijayan, in a very controversial speech. Sudhakaran was speaking at the second death anniversary event of slain Youth Congress members Kripesh and Sharath Lal. The MP had referred to Pinarayi as the son of a toddy-tapper, throughout his speech, which was the cause of the original issue a few weeks back.
