Metro Man E Sreedharan to join BJP, might contest election: Kerala president K Surendran

Attending a press conference in Kozhikode, BJP State President K Surendran announced that E Sridharan — also known as Metro Man — would join the party. “He will attend my ‘Vijaya Yatra’ where he will officially join the BJP,” Surendran said, adding that more will join the saffron party in the coming days.

Palakkad native E Sreedharan is often cited as having changed the image of the public transport in India. His most famous work would be the restoration of damaged Pamban Bridge in 46 days, while also having been an integral part of Delhi, Kolkata, and Kochi Metros, as well as the Konkan Railway project. He is a Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri winner, and he has received the Legion of Honour, which is the highest French order of merit.

While the BJP is interested in fielding Sreedharan as a candidate in the upcoming Kerala assembly elections, the decision has to be taken by the saffron party’s parliamentary committee. Meanwhile, Sreedharan would be the third high profile candidate to join the saffron party, as former DGP Jacob Thomas joined the party on February 4 under the guidance of BJP National President JP Nadda. A day before that, actor Krishnakumar joined their fold as well. Details regarding them contesting the polls are yet unknown.
