In another suspected case of honour killing, a 27-year-old man was hacked to death by his wife’s relatives, who had got married hardly three months ago, in Palakkad on Friday evening. The deceased was identified as Aneesh, a native of Thenkurissi in Palakkad.

According to reports, Aneesh’s father-in-law Prabhukumar, who was absconding after the murder, has been taken into custody from a relative’s house in Coimbatore. On Friday, Suresh, uncle of Haritha, Aneesh’s wife, has also been taken into custody. Both were suspected to be behind the incident. However, more details are needed to confirm whether the murder was an honour killing incident, says Palakkad Dy SP P Sasikumar. He added that both accused should be questioned to more information.

Meanwhile, Aneesh’s father claim that the murder of his son was a case of honour killing as Haritha’s father had already threatened that they would not permit the couple to live longer as both belonged to different castes. Reportedly, even Arun, Aneesh’s brother, revealed that Haritha's father had threatened them.

On Friday evening, Aneesh and his brother were travelling on a motorcycle. When they stopped near a shop, Prabhukumar and Suresh allegedly attacked them. Aneesh was badly injured on the neck and leg. He was rushed immediately to the Palakkad district hospital, but, he succumbed to his injuries.

This is not the first case of suspected honour killing taking place in Kerala. In May 2018, Kevin, a Dalit Christian, initiated paperwork for registering his marriage with Neenu Chacko, a native of Kollam. Kevin had met Neenu while she was doing her graduation at KE College in Mannanam. Neenu’s family was against their relationship. However, they decided to get married. On May 27, Kevin was kidnapped from Mannanam by Neenu’s relatives and the next day, his body was found in a canal in Kollam.
