Konni area secretary denies allegation of CPM role in death of former local secretary

Konni area secretary Shyamlal denied allegations regarding the involvement of CPM party members in the death of former CPM local secretary of Konni area, Omanakuttan, who was found hanging near his home on Wednesday morning.

The reason for suicide is unclear. Omanakuttan’s family has claimed that the party is responsible for his suicide. According to his wife, Radha, Omanakuttan was under constant threat by the party.

He was supposedly threatened after a LDF candidate lost in ward number 15 of Konni Gram Panchayat during LSG polls. The party had apparently tried to assault and had even threatened to kill him. His wife said that the party workers viewed Omanakuttan as an enemy and felt that he was responsible for the party’s loss in the election. According to Radha, Omanakuttan had locked himself in his room for the last few days.

Meanwhile Shyamlal said he was unaware of any trouble between Omanakuttan and the party's leadership.
