Kerala Women’s Commission MC Josephine asks 89-year-old bedridden woman to appear directly

Kerala Women’s Commission chairperson MC Josephine has reportedly asked an 89-year-old plaintiff to appear before the commission directly for hearing the complaint. Josephine allegedly made this remark while replying to a query of the plaintiff’s grandson, following which an audio recording of the call has been leaked to the press. Josephine, however, has reported that the entire issue is politically motivated.

According to the plaintiff’s — Lakshmikutty Amma — grandson Ullas Kumar, she had been bedridden since their neighbour attacked her. In the attack, she had sustained damage to her spine and back. Despite having complained to the police several times, no action was yet to take place and as such, they have decided to take the matter to the Women’s Commission. After filing the complaint, they learnt that they had to report to Adoor on January 28, and Ullas called Josephine to see if they could change the venue or get more time since moving the plaintiff would be difficult.

In their conversation, Josephine is heard asking as to why they are moving the issue with the Women's Commission and not with the police. She goes on to berate the relative for having filed a complaint through his 89-year-old grandmother, despite Ullas saying that their police complaint yielded no result. Moreover, Josephine tells him that there is no other way but to bring the bedridden Lakshmikutty Amma directly to Adoor.

After the audio has become viral, Josephine addressed the media, claiming that Ullas misinterpreted her answer and said that it could be politically motivated. However, she stuck to the fact that it was wrong to use the 89-year-old to file a complaint in the Women’s Commission, even though she doesn’t explain why it is wrong. Further updates on the matter are awaited.
