Rt Rev Dr Geevarghese Mar Theodosius Suffragan Metropolitan has been installed as the 22nd Mar Thoma Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church at Poolatheen Marthoma Church in Thiruvalla on Saturday. His installation comes after the passing away of the Most Rev Dr Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, the 21st Mar Thoma Metropolitan, on October 18.
After the installation service, Geevarghese Thirumeni has been given the title of The Most Rev Geevarghese Mar Thoma. The installation service was led by Rt Rev Dr Euyakim Mar Coorilos Episcopa. Most Rev Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan, the Metropolitan Emeritus of the Marthoma Church, Marthoma Syrian Church Bishops, and Bishops from other Church factions also attended the event.
Geevarghese Thirumeni was born on February 19, 1949, to parents, Dr KJ Chacko and Simoni Chacko in Ashtamudi, Kollam. He was ordained as Deacon on June 24, 1972, Kassissa on February 24, 1973, Ramban on November 4, 1989, and Episcopa on December 9, 1989. Thirumeni has been in charge of several parishes since 1973. He has served in Mumbai, Kolkata, Canada and the United States.
On July 12, 2020, he was installed as the Suffragan Metropolitan by Dr Joseph Mar Thoma during a service at the Poolatheen Chapel in Thiruvalla.
