Four members of a family were rescued with severe burn injuries at Nadapuram, Kozhikode. The injured were Raju, his wife, Reena, and their children Shefin and Shalees.

It was the neighbours who raised the alarm as they found flames blazing from the house in the wee hours of Tuesday. One room of the house has been completely destroyed by the fire. All four are in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College. The police suspect that it is a case of attempted suicide.

On February 11, a 12-member family from Thrissur had a miraculous escape when the houseboat they were to travel in at Alappuzha caught fire. The boat caught fire while it was anchored at the houseboat terminal at Vattakayal. Timely intervention by the houseboat crew and local helped avert a major mishap.

Houseboat operators in Alappuzha are currently clamoring for a fire and rescue unit to be set up at Punnamada as fire related accidents have been harming the tourism industry in the region that is still struggling to get back on a recovery mode after being hit by the pandemic-inflicted lockdown.
