First, of its kind, father-in-law and son-in-law will be showing their presence in the Kerala Assembly soon. Thus, a new chapter will be scripted in its decades-long history.

The duo who will be scripting the new chapter is Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and son-in-law PA Mohammed Riyas, the national president of the Democratic Youth Federation.

Pinarayi Vijayan won the Kerala Assembly election with a huge margin of 50,123 votes from his home turf Dharmadam in Kannur district. The 44-year-old Riyas won the election from Beypore, a Left bastion in Kozhikode.

The Kerala state assembly has witnessed accomodating sons and daughters of various veterans in the past, this is for the first time that a father-in-law and son-in-law are coming together to be the part of the House. Earlier, Riyas had successfully contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Kozhikode.

Riyas is the husband of Vijayan's daughter Veena, who is an IT entrepreneur. On June 15, 2020, Riyas and Veena got married at Cliff House, the official residence of the Chief Minister.

Many politicians have tried their luck in the Kerala Assembly elections, but many failed. The election result was a huge blow to the opposition, which was hoping to regain power. However, it could amass only 41 seats, while BJP lost the battle.
