Ex Kerala Mahila Congress chief Lathika Subhash’s financial plea via Facebook goes viral

Lathika, who is standing as an Independent candidate in Ettumanoor seeks financial aid for her election campaign

Former Kerala Mahila Congress chief Lathika Subhash’s post on Facebook post seeking financial aid for her election campaign has gone viral. The ex-Congress leader shaved her head and submitted her resignation after being denied ticket for the upcoming Kerala Assembly Elections 2021 on March 13. She went a step ahead and tonsured her head as mark of protest.

She later announced that she would contest as an Independent from Ettumanoor. Her announcement however, came as a setback to the UDF candidate Prince Lukose of Kerala Congress Joseph faction as Lathika has been an active social worker in the constituency for three decades and is likely to walk away with a major share of the UDF votes.

The 56-year-old is currently seen travelling pillion on an Enfield during her campaigning in a bid to cut costs.

In a Facebook post Lathika, who claims she will be fighting against corruption, injustice and inequality if voted to power, wrote, “Even though the heart was broken, the head was shaved with courage. Instead, my natives crowned me with love and solidarity. Because I have faith in you, I decided to contest not as a candidate of any party or front. There's so much difficulty financially. Need to help. Every coin you give is for the sidewalk and the women community (SIC)”

She posted her bank account details along with the post. Her post has received a mixed response. While some have responded positively and have claimed to have supported her fund raising, others are making snide remarks.

The Congress announced candidates for 86 seats of the 92 it is contesting and has fielded nine women candidates. In Ettumanoor, the LDF has fielded V N Vasavan and the UDF has put up Prince Lukose.
