Disciplinary action was taken against the head of the Sanskrit department for raising a complaint against the Vice-Chancellor of Kalady University amidst allegations of backdoor appointments. Dr PV Narayanan, Head of the Sanskrit department has been removed from the post. KR Ambika, a senior teacher in the department will replace him. The action was taken against Narayanan as he did not comply with the syndicate's decision.
The complaint claims that the PhD admissions had been sabotaged for the SFI leaders with the help of the Vice-Chancellor. In the letter sent to the registrar, Narayanan alleges that he was getting threats for not including certain candidates in the list based on the university's interest.
The Vice-Chancellor had asked the department to revise the shortlist prepared by the research committee following the decision of the syndicate. Earlier, the SFI activists had organised a protest demanding disciplinary action against PV Narayanan.
In the past few months, multiple backdoor appointment controversies have erupted at Kalady Sanskrit University. The first controversy surrounds MB Rajesh’s wife Ninitha Kanicheri’s alleged illicit appointment. The second one was the appointment of Dr Sangeetha Thiruval in the Dheevara community reservation seat. The allegation is that the authorities appointed her following the suggestions of the CPM district committee, which was acting on the recommendations of the Paravoor area committee.
