The Customs will question State Assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan in connection with the dollar smuggling case, next week. According to reports, he will be summoned unofficially without serving a notice for questioning.
After questioning the Speaker, if the statement given by the accused against the Speaker is valid then the Customs plan to go ahead with further official proceedings against the Speaker.
According to the statement given by the accused, the Speaker has investments in the education sector of West Asia. The Customs had earlier questioned the Speaker’s friend Nas Abdullah and found that a SIM card in Nas’s name was used by the Speaker. Later, the Customs found that the Speaker had called the accused from this SIM card. The Customs also claim that the SIM has not been used since the smuggling came to light and that there is a mystery in it.
In an interview with a channel, earlier, the Speaker confessed that he had used the SIM card. He further added that he did not have an identity card in his possession at the time of taking the SIM card and that is why he used the ID card of Nas to take the SIM card. He even admitted that he had used the SIM card for his personal needs and might have called the accused, including Swapna Suresh.
In the statement given by Swapna Suresh when she was in Attakkulangara jail, she hinted that those holding Constitutional posts are involved in the case. Later, the Customs received a similar statement from another accused, Sarith. The Customs recorded these statements as secret testimony, which became decisive against the Speaker.
