Customs Commissioner probing Kerala gold smuggling case alleges attempt to attack him

Two people were arrested for allegedly attacking Customs Commissioner Sumit Kumar, who is probing the sensational gold smuggling case. The incident happened on Friday when the official was on his way to Karipur from Kalpetta in Wayanad district.

According to reports, the official had lodged a police complaint stating that the incident was a planned attempt to put him in danger. Following the complaint filed by Sumit Kumar, Kozhikode and Kondotty police have arrested two people. Jaseem and Thanseem, both residents of Mukam were taken into custody by the police. The police have even found the vehicle they have used to follow the Customs Commissioner.

On Friday, the incident took place at around 2 pm near Malappuram’s Edavanna. The Customs Commissioner even wrote a Facebook post stating that it was a planned attempt to threaten him. He wrote, “A syndicate tried to attack me on road. They tried to make it look like an accident. The CCP (Customs Commissionerate [Preventive]) units are looking for the attackers.”

Reportedly, the Customs Commissioner even revealed that this is not the first time he was targeted. He and his staff had on multiple occasions faced attacks and they have even lodged complaints with the Kerala police.
