As the number of Covid-19 cases is rapidly increasing, the cemeteries in Kerala is witnessing a long wait for the burial. For the burial at the Saanthi Kavadam cemetery in Thiruvananthapuram, the families have to reportedly book and wait for their chance to bury the dead body of their dear ones. The number of bodies reaching Saanthi Kavadam has doubled in no time. A similar situation is faced at Maranallor Panchayat crematorium.
Around 17 bodies can be cremated on a day at Thycaud's Saanthi Kavadam. Only bodies of Covid patients are currently buried there. However, due to the continuous working, the machine at the crematorium stops in between and this is creating trouble for the authorities.
Palakkad's Chandranagar Cemetery has seen an increase in the number of burials. Now every day an average of ten bodies are cremated at the electric cemetery. In order to tackle the situation, authorities are currently cremating the bodies of Covid-19 patients only.
However, the situation in Kozhikode is not the worst. Every day nearly 15 bodies are cremated and the situation is somehow tackled. Currently, Kozhikode West Hill Cemetery is capable of handling the number of bodies that reach for burial. According to reports, an average of 17 bodies is buried on a daily basis in this cemetery.
At present Laloor Crematorium in Thrissur buries nearly 8 to 10 bodies. With the rapid spread of Covid-19, the death rate has doubled.
On the other hand, reportedly, ICU and ventilator beds are not available in any of the major private hospitals in Ernakulam, where the number of Covid-19 cases is doubling. According to reports, the In Ernakulam district, patients had to wait for days for ventilators and finally had to move to Thrissur or Kottayam. The situation is getting worst for the past two days. However, the district administration claims that half of the ICU beds are still available.
Meanwhile, Kerala created another highest single-day record of 41,953 new Covid-19 cases and 58 deaths on Wednesday. Most of these cases were recorded in Ernakulam district. On the other hand, in the last 24 hours, India recorded 3,980 Covid fatalities and the country has also created a new grim record in its daily Covid number with 4.12 Lakh Coronavirus cases.
