Amidst backdoor appointments in ISRO and Kalady University, a new complaint was filed alleging the intervention of Kerala minister KT Jaleel to regularize an unauthorised appointment of a college teacher.

The complaint alleges that Jaleel directed the Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University to appoint a Latin language teacher of St Xavier's College, Thumpa as an English teacher.

Save University filed a complaint demanding the withdrawal of Jaleel's order to the Kerala Governor.

According to reports, on January 7, Jaleel chaired a special meeting in his chamber to decide the college management's request to appoint Fr Dr VY Dasappan, a Latin teacher and principal of Thumba St Xavier's College, as English teacher.

However, the Joint Registrar informed that the university had earlier rejected an application in this regard. The minister told the university to initiate the necessary steps after checking the qualification of the teacher. A representative of the management and the teacher who had filed the application had also attended the meeting.

Reportedly, the management claims that when Fr Dasappan became the principal, there was no permanent staff to teach Latin and this resulted in the decision of his transfer. However, the complaint states that if this process becomes the norm, then it will reduce the relevance of the selection committee in such a way as to facilitate management to reassign teachers at will.

However, according to UGC rules, it doesn't permit the transfer of a teacher from the subject department in which he/she was appointed first. Fr Dasappan holds a postgraduate degree in English, M.Phil and PhD.
