A complaint has been lodged against the Thrissur Corporation councilor who insulted the doctor who instructed her to wear a mask to follow Covid-19 protocol. Dr. Shagina of the Thrissur Mental Health Centre was the one who raised the complaint against councilor Lali James. However, according to the councillor, it was the doctor who misbehaved with her. Thrissur West Police have launched a probe into the matter.
According to reports, the incident took place on March 20. Shagina claims that Lali insulted her when she pointed out Covid protocol of wearing a mask to a councillor who spoke to her without wearing the mask properly. It is alleged that the councilor claimed that she held a high position in the standing committee of health. In the complaint, Shagina further claims that the councilor threatened to transfer her to a new location and even insulted her for skin colour.
On the other hand, the Kerala Government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA) alleges that despite filing a complaint, the police haven't initiated any further action on the matter. The organisation further claimed that even though an FIR was registered, there have been no further proceedings and it is an injustice to the health workers who worked day and night due to the pandemic outbreak.
However, councilor Lali James said that the complaint was fabricated and alleged that the doctor treated her behaved rudely to her who went accompanied relatives to admit a patient. She further alleges that the doctor had denied treatment to the patient. KGMOA organised a protest at the district level over the incident.
