As the last leg of the election campaigning progresses in the state, the Thrissur Archdiocese has criticised the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government for not having kept the promises they made in their last election. “They claimed that everything will be all right after they come to power, but everything was all right in their leaders’ and their dependents’ homes. One must cast their votes carefully, and it shouldn’t be given to people who are trying to make India a religious country,” the Archdiocese instructed their believers in the latest edition of their newsletter Catholica Sabha.
The Archdiocese said, “The LDF came into power claiming that they would fix everything. However, nothing of those sorts happened. They are fooling the people through songs of praise and their development comes at the cost of large debts on the people.” While there were claims about the diocese moving towards the BJP, the newsletter has added a strong criticism of the BJP-led NDA as well.
“Political coups are happening within the country to subvert democracy and bring each state under the majoritarian communalism. Kerala has never succumbed to communalism, and it shouldn’t happen now either. Understand the specific political climate of the state and do not waste your vote,” the newsletter added. The criticism comes at a time when the BJP is planning specific committees and bringing in national leaders to pull Christian votes in the election.
