Following the violence over the murder of a Muslim League activist allegedly by Communist Party of India (Marxist) activists in Kannur, District Collector TV Subhash has called an all-party meeting. Reportedly, violence broke out and many CPL(M) offices were attacked immediately after the funeral procession of the 22-year-old Youth League worker, Paral Mansoor.
According to reports, CPI(M) offices in Peringathur were set on fire. Even the Panoor Town Branch Committee office and the Achimukku Branch Committee Office were also destroyed following the fire on Wednesday night.
Nearly 10 Left party offices were destroyed and police resorted to baton charges as violence erupts in Kannur. While interacting with a media organization Kannur SP Ilango R said that about five to six persons, who were mostly IUML workers were arrested after some miscreants have attacked around five-party offices in Chockil and Kolavellur police station limits. He added that three police officials got injured and a police bus was damaged in the violence.
The autopsy report of Mansoor suggests that he died due to the injuries sustained from the bomb blast on election day. Even the primary post-mortem report revealed the same. According to the report, serious injuries caused by the bomb blast resulted in bleeding which resulted in his death.
Meanwhile, a Facebook post of former Kannur CPM secretary P Jayarajan’s son Jain Raj over the incident has gone viral. He said that it has “become a habit to beg for it” in his post which has invited other left activists to support the political murder. This is despite current Kannur secretary MV Jayarajan claiming that while the death was unfortunate, the left party had nothing to do with it. He added that the incident happened at a location where the party didn’t have any influence.
On the other hand, the police have confirmed that it is indeed a political murder and that they have identified 11 attackers.
On Tuesday, a Muslim League activist, Paral Mansoor died in a clash between CPM and Muslim League workers in Kadavathoor, Kannur. He was hacked to death by a gang in the violence at around 8 pm on election day. Mansoor's brother Muhasin was also admitted to the hospital due to serious injuries. A gang of alleged CPM workers barged into the house of Mansoor after creating a scary atmosphere by hurling bombs into the house. When the gang attacked Muhasin, his brother Mansoor tried to stop them and the attackers hacked Mansoor also.
