There shouldn’t be any irregularities in academic institutions, said Ranjith R Pannathur, whose Facebook enumerating his journey from a hut to being an Assistant professor in IIM went viral. He asked why he wasn’t given an appointment at Calicut University despite getting the fourth rank in the list with four vacancies. “The future of the country resides within academic institutions,” said Ranjith, who added that he never expected his post to go viral.
His Facebook post enumerated his journey from a hut to his current postings. It was widely circulated by many people including Finance Minister Thomas Isaac. Born and raised in a very poor family in Kanhangad, Pannathur, Ranjith was planning on stopping his education until another opportunity knocked on his doors. He worked as a security guard while completing his graduation. He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the Central University of Kerala and he obtained his PhD from IIT Madras, despite many hurdles in his way.
However, Ranjith was not appointed to the post of Assistant Professor at Calicut University despite being ranked fourth. However, an even bigger opportunity awaited him. Ranjith will join Ranchi IIM next month as an Assistant Professor. Ranjith is the son of A Ramachandran and PV Baby of Kelappan Kayam.
